Children with disabilities involved in the child welfare system face many challenges in accessing a quality education. Federal and state laws provide protections that can help address these challenges and improve outcomes.
Federal law requires that local school districts provide special education and related services to all eligible students with disabilities. Related services may be necessary to help a student meet the goals in the IEP.
Inclusion means that everyone is an important member of their neighborhood, community, and school. Inclusion also means that each person receives the support needed in order to live and learn successfully and achieve their highest potential.
