FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1/29/2020

SPAN Parent Advocacy Network congratulates Deepa Srinivasavaradan, the CDC’s “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” Ambassador to NJ, for being nominated and selected as the recipient of the 2020 Merle McPherson Award for “exemplary contributions to further family/professional collaboration within state Title V programs and the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP).” The award was developed to honor Dr. Merle McPherson, who left a legacy of leadership and vision for how to create a new model of family-centered health care delivery for children and youth with special health care needs. She also led the way to expand the family-centered care model for children with special health care needs internationally. Ms. Srinivasavaradan directs SPAN’s NJ’s Early Childhood Initiatives project, which celebrates children’s development and improves early identification. The goal of the project is to get children and families the services and support they need by addressing the needs of parents, parents-to-be, infants, and young children; and focusing on parent leadership development.

The Family and Youth Leadership Committee and AMCHP Board recognize Ms. Srinivasavaradan’s service to the field of MCH and her tireless advocacy on behalf of families. She will be recognized by her peers at the 2020 AMCHP conference on Tuesday, March 24.
