Stay Covered! Mini Grant
Supported by Family Voices, through a grant from the Lucile Packard Foundation and MCHB, SPAN was awarded a mini-grant to work with families to navigate Medicaid Unwinding.
We conduct outreach and education to increase awareness of the PHE (Public Health Emergency) Unwinding and Medicaid Redetermination process.
We work with families to proactively navigate the Medicaid redetermination process related to the end of the Public Health Emergency, including one-on-one navigation services, trainings, and targeted outreach activities.

In March 2022, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid implemented special regulations ensuring continued coverage for all Medicaid recipients, even if they exceeded income limits. This was referred to as the “continuous Medicaid enrollment” rule.
The Continuous Medicaid Enrollment rule ended in April 2023, marking the start of Medicaid Unwinding. From April 2023 to March 2024, many NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid enrollees underwent redetermination, receiving either a renewal application or being automatically deemed re-eligible. This process is known as “Unwinding” from the continuous Medicaid requirement.
In partnership with NJ DOH, NJ DHS and NJ DMAHS, SPAN is conducting outreach.
