ABOUT THE SFEC PROJECT
Through the NJ Family Engagement Hub Project, SPAN serves as the federally-funded Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC) for New Jersey. The project strives to strengthen partnerships between families, schools, and communities to improve student achievement, academic outcomes, and overall well-being. The Hub provides training, technical assistance, and capacity building resources to parents, schools, community organizations and local school districts on effective family engagement policies, programs, and activities.
POSITION SUMMARY

SPAN Parent Advocacy Network seeks to hire a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Regional Family Engagement Specialist who is passionate about strengthening family-school partnerships and advancing family engagement to support student well-being, healthy development, and academic success.
The Regional Family Engagement Specialist serves as a key liaison between families, schools, community organizations, and public agencies. The FE Specialist works to strengthen meaningful family engagement by providing training, technical assistance, outreach, and leadership development opportunities for families and professionals.
This position focuses on building family capacity, fostering collaborative family-professional partnerships, and increasing family participation in decision-making processes that impact children, youth, families, and communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position’s duties include fostering strong relationships with school staff, parent leaders, community organizations, group facilitators, and other local stakeholders.
- Conduct outreach and build relationships with families and community partners.
- Facilitate workshops, presentations, and family engagement activities.
- Recruit, support, and mentor family leaders.
- Connect families to resources, services, and support programs.
- Promote meaningful family participation in advisory groups, committees, and decision-making opportunities.
- Support family engagement strategies that promote student achievement and social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with schools, agencies, and community organizations to strengthen family-professional partnerships.
- Maintain records, correspondence, track activities, and prepare required reports.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in education, social work, public health, human services, or a related field.
- Experience in family engagement, community outreach, advocacy, or related work.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working with diverse families and communities.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned region and occasionally statewide.
- Ability to work on a computer and participate in virtual meetings for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of self-direction.
- Excellent planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of state, regional, and local community resources.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Bilingual skills and lived experience as a parent, caregiver, or family leader are highly valued.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this a remote position?
Yes, this is a remote position, however, travel is required. The Regional Family Engagement Specialist is also expected to attend quarterly meetings of SPAN staff, professional development sessions when offered, and an annual conference at various locations across New Jersey.
What region is covered by this position?
Southern NJ | Counties of Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Monmouth, Ocean, and Salem.
Is this a position with night and weekend hours?
Although this position has flexibility in terms of the schedule, the Regional Family Engagement Specialist will not be required to work night or weekend hours (except with regard to SPAN conferences, which may be held on Saturdays).
