Director of SPAN Public Policy, Peggy Kinsell, in her role as the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee Chairperson, has helped initiate a report urging schools to include students with disabilities in emergency planning.

“The absence of school-wide evacuation planning for students with disabilities and special healthcare needs is a gross oversight,” she said. “‘Run, hide, fight’ is not close to sufficient planning when considering students with disabilities or special healthcare needs.”

The report has the backing of state Assemblyperson Mila Jasey and Kevin Nuñez, an officer of the disabilities council who has cerebral palsy. Read more about this report and Nuñez’ personal story of the past and current lack of solid plans for kids with disabilities in the NJ Spotlight article.
